Gutter Screens - Do They
Help?
Gutter screens are invaluable in preventing leaves,
seedpods, twigs and other debris from clogging your rain
gutters and downspouts. The damage from overtopping gutters can
be severe, everything from damaged guttering to foundation
damage from water leaking in the basement.
The various types of gutter screens are easy to install
since they slide under the shingles and usually snap over the
front lip of the rain gutter in most cases.
Keeping out the "helicopters", pine needles and leaves are
something these screens are designed to do, and if installed
properly, is something they do fairly well.
Gutter screens are the inexpensive solution to rain gutter
systems like Gutter Helmet, K-Guard Gutters and several others.
Instead of costing thousands, screens can be bought for only a
few dollars.
Keep in mind though; a gutter screen will not keep all the
debris out. No matter how well you install them, debris can
still get inside the gutter channel. So gutter cleaning is
still going to be necessary, but just not as frequently.
If you’re looking to prevent roof and shingle damage,
clogged and overtopping gutters, and basement foundation leaks
and possible damage, then gutter screens are the quick fix.
There are many different brands and types of screens that
you can find by doing an online search. No one particular brand
stands above the others since this is a simple and inexpensive
solution.
Most gutter screens, at least those I would recommend, come
with a minimum of a 1-year warranty.
